SPRA is hoping to run another of its successful Specialist Applied-skills Programmes ( this is our apprenticeship course) early in the new year. Even with Covid restrictions, we are safely able to hold face to face training due to the small numbers of trainees involved and the flexibility and safety of the training centre at Cradley Heath in the West Midlands managed by SPRA members, Briggs Amasco. Significant CITB funding is available, but has been severely restricted, so we only have four places on this course. Priority will be given to SPRA members – who also get a discounted rate.
Training involves five one-week blocks taken over a twelve month period. Evidence is gathered on site during this time, and the trainees each have a further six months to complete their portfolios on site if required. Formal qualifications are becoming increasingly valuable and important. An NVQ will allow access to a blue Skilled Worker CSCS card, and will also be the cornerstone to any future upskilling over time ensuring that the trainee stays abreast of new innovations and products across the industry.
