Dame Judith Hackitts’ review highlights need for cultural change (and recommendations for major overhaul of the Building Regulations system)

Build UK have just released a report Build UK Industry Response Group Member Briefing – November 2017 to members on the work so far of the Industry Response Group.

The review’s interim report, which will be published in December, will suggest a major overhaul of the Building Regulations system, especially for high-rise to create a risk based approach underpinned by cultural change in the industry. SPRA CEO note – there will be changes to legislation as a result of Grenfell, but we can take responsibility and do so much more ourselves. Sometimes products can be to blame, but more often it is either the wrong product in the wrong place or the right product badly installed. Can you be sure that everyone you work with down the supply chain has the right skills, knowledge and training? Could you do more to ensure they have? Installer courses are available through SPRA and there is CITB grant available to support registered companies – it’s time for investment, not excuses.  Cathie Clarke.
