Build UK and the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) have launched the first phase of the new construction pre-qualification (PQ) system designed to reduce inefficiencies that are costing the industry up to £1 billion a year. This includes publication of the Common Assessment Standard and recognition of the first assessment bodies to certify companies against the standard. The new system will ultimately allow for greater consistency and efficiency in how companies become pre-qualified for work at the first stage. Find out more in our press release.
The Common Assessment Standard comprises an industry-agreed question set based on existing PQ questionnaires, including PAS 91, and desktop and site-based assessment standards. Once the new system is fully up and running, companies will be certified once a year against the standard by a recognised assessment body. This should be accepted by Contractors and Clients who will no longer need to specify a particular assessment body.
We have published a guide to the question set to help companies prepare for an audit by a recognised assessment body.
