Welcome again this week to all SPRA members and readers of the SPRA Weekly News.
This week the SPRA Weekly News, for both members and non-members, has something for all on a variety of interesting and important aspects of single ply roofing and construction industry issues.
Please note! If you are a member please ensure you have access to our dedicated ‘Members Area’ which has additional items of interest to those involved in all aspects of single ply roofing.
Firstly, the RCI show took place last week at MK Dons Stadium in Milton Keynes. SPRA had a stand for all to visit to discuss any SPRA related issues, including membership for those wishing to join the association. It was great for Anthony and myself, to see many members who came onto the stand having not had the chance to meet face to face over the last 18 months or so. Nigel Blacklock, Chair of the SPRA Technical Committee, gave a well-attended and appreciated, presentation at the event. Anthony Hogan reflects on this in Tony’s Tech Time, available to all this week.
We’d like to inform our readers that SPRA will be hosting a number of digital events this autumn running up to the year end, The SPRA Autumn Seminar Series. These will be short (approximately one hour) workshop or seminar type events accessible from your office or home through the Zoom platform. The dates are currently being finalised and one includes a follow up to our very successful Conference 2021 – Technical Panel, hosted by SPRA Technical Chair, Nigel Blacklock including Peter Caplehorn (CEO of the CPA) and Bill Hewlett (Technical Director of the BBA). Nigel will discuss with Peter and Bill, a number of items including CCPI, Lexicon, Certification and Building Safety. This event will take place on Monday 15th November 2021 at 2.30pm. Keep reading future editions of the SPRA Weekly News for details of all events in the SPRA Autumn Seminar Series and details of how to register.
The next SPRA Technical Committee Meeting (virtual) takes place next week on 12th October. Thanks to all who have confirmed their attendance or otherwise at the Technical Committee next week.
On the training front our Wind Load Calculation Protocol (WLPC) sessions started again this week for those registered to participate. Please ensure you read our item in the General Area concerning this as future sessions are open both to members and non-members of SPRA.
Training relating to SAP, SUP and OSAT opportunities and assessment is also covered in more detail in our Members Area. Please note we are looking for participants for a new SAP 12 starting before the end of this year.
New items this week include information from Build UK regarding Materials and Labour Shortages, the ending of the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme and a new International Standard on Mental Health as well as a new HSE Construction Health Inspection Initiative which has started this week.
Among the extensive information from the CPA there is an opportunity to watch again, if you missed it, the CPA Webinar: Update on CA Marking. There is an item on the now published CCPI and links providing more information on this as well as the CPA – UK Economic and Construction Update by Prof. Nobel Francis released last week.
As always, hope you find the enclosed interesting and informative.
We wish all well and have a safe and productive week.
