MHCLG Consultation Launch

In response to Dame Judith Hackitt’s Building a Safer Future, the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) has published a consultation on Building a safer future: proposals for reform of the building safety regulatory system.

Amongst others, the consultation covers:

  • Proposals for a more effective regulatory framework with a revised dutyholder regime, aligned to the CDM Regulations 2005
  • Three new gateway points will be introduced with dutyholders only able to proceed to the next phase subject to meeting relevant safety criteria
  • The Competence Steering Group’s proposals for an overarching system for competence oversight.

We would particularly like to hear your views on the new dutyholder regime and gateway points (chapter 3) and the impact this will have on the delivery of building projects. Please respond to Louis Lyons with your comments and views by Friday 5 July. The Build UK response will be forwarded to members for review before the consultation closes on Wednesday 31 July.
