The SPRA team have seen no let-up in the workload. Alongside all the normal membership tasks and keeping members as updated as possible in this ever-changing world, we are continuing to receive new membership enquiries, which is fantastic news in the circumstances. We have been accepted to sit on the Scottish Construction Industry Coronavirus Forum (CICF) and have been adding their advice to our Coronavirus Page. Indeed, they have just issued an updated version of their ‘Safe Return To Work’ document which has also been loaded onto the SPRA website.
We have also been pleased to see an increase in the numbers of enquiries regarding NVQ training. We are still able to carry out On Site Assessment and Training (OSAT) for experienced
workers but have had to postpone our next apprenticeship training week until September whilst we re-think delivery.
Work continues apace on agreeing an industry position on zero falls on exposed roofs with the BBA and working with SPRA members to conclude the review to the Design Guide. Ronan and Cathie have been busy providing input to both Working Group 2 and 12 and also preparing for our first fully online Council Meeting on the 25th. Choosing the best meeting software was a bit of a challenge! Council will be deciding on when to hold the AGM which has been postponed from the 24th June due to Coronavirus. We will also be holding Council elections prior to the AGM, so members should look out for the notice. Could this be you? Council is always keen to welcome new applicants – you need to be working at director level and able to take decisions on behalf of your company. SPRA is a thriving and vibrant trade association that punches well above its weight, so why not consider applying to become part of the leadership team?
And finally, it seems very strange not to be having conference next week, and although I won’t miss the stress (!) I will certainly miss seeing everybody, particularly as it would have been my last at the helm. The team have been starting to think about future events and would welcome suggestions from membership about possible formats and content. Please send any thoughts to membership@spra.co.uk!
