SPRA CEO to be Build UK Representative on CSCS Card Management Committee

I have been invited to represent Build UK on the CSCS Card Management Committee. As a strong supporter of the scheme, I hope to be able to help the committee look at new ways to increase the value and effectiveness of the scheme to ensure quality and raise standards across the industry. CSCS focusses the importance of skills, training and qualifications.  Used correctly by all stakeholders, the CSCS card scheme would make an even more significant and lasting difference to the quality and sustainability of our built environment. New apps make card reading easier than ever before, and I hope that everyone will commit to ensuring that those allowed on site are correctly qualified for the job they are there to do. It’s in everyone’s interest to make this happen.  I’ve also often wondered why the general public do not know about the scheme since it has been in existence for a significant time. Yes, it was started in the commercial sector, but why not extend it to domestic property? I have often said that I think estate agents or mortgage insurance companies should provide CSCS information at the time of each purchase as part of the ‘moving in’ pack. This advice should encourage homeowners to ask for CSCS cards when seeking building contractors for home improvements or indeed self-building. I welcome other’s opinions on all matters CSCS, so please get in touch.
