On 28th January, SPRA Chairman Martyn Holloway attended a ‘BREXIT Contingency Planning Conference’ held by the Construction Leadership Council at the Institution of Civil Engineers, Westminster. The aim of the conference was to develop sector contingency plans for a No Deal Brexit. A full summary can be found in the Members Area of the SPRA Website

The conference was well attended with over 100 delegates representing construction contractors, house builders, product manufacturing and professional services, as well as trade associations and key construction clients.

There was a wide range of speakers including the following:

•           Diana Montgomery (Construction Products Association – CPA)

•           Peter Ward (Port of Tilbury)

•           Ryan Diggory (Dept for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy – BEIS)

•           Naomi Munro Lott & Damien Shannon BEIS

•           David Hughes (Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government – MHCLG)

The presentations (which can also be accessed from the members area of the website) were wide ranging including the potential impact of a no deal Brexit, the import and export of goods, migration policy and the regulation of construction products. This was followed by a discussion on the anticipated impacts and what measures companies of all sizes from across the industry can take to prepare for the possibility of a No Deal Brexit.
