SPRA Training: What does it mean for you?

As part of its commitment to high quality standards within single ply roofing, The Single Ply Roofing Association has developed a number of training schemes including onsite and offsite, apprenticeship and upskilling training modules to suit every individual’s needs.

The Specialist Applied-skills Programme (SAP) is a 2-year course which results in a NVQ level 2 Diploma in Single Ply roofing, and also gives the candidate a Skilled Worker card on completion. SAP is an ideal starting point for individuals who are new to the industry and wanting to pursue a career in the industry. The SAP course is tailored to minimise absence from site while ensuring the trainees have access to an effective and comprehensive training programme. The offsite aspect is delivered through five blocks of five training days over an 18-month period. A period of onsite assessment is also carried out by a fully qualified SPRA endorsed assessor. The next SAP course, SAP 8, is due to start within the next few weeks. , there are still a few places left so if you would like to book a place get in touch with SPRA now.

The On-Site Assessment and Training (OSAT) offered by SPRA gives a route to the NVQ for experienced installers with no formal qualifications to prove their competency. There is no offsite training to attend as the candidate is assessed in their workplace by a SPRA endorsed assessor, this means there is minimal disruption for the candidate and their employer.

The Specialist Upskilling Programme (SUP) is a 1-year course which like SAP also results in a NVQ level 2 Diploma in Single Ply roofing. However, unlike SAP, the SUP course is aimed at installers who have worked in the industry for some time but who now wish to become competent across all mandatory units and achieve the NVQ at level 2. It can also be of interest to those who wish to further their career or for those returning to the industry after a break. A dedicated assessor works with the candidate to identify areas that need to be covered to achieve competency in all sections of the NVQ. The number of offsite training days (between 5 and 13 days) over the duration of the course will be tailored to the needs of the candidate. SUP is an excellent way for those already in the industry to achieve a nationally recognised qualification in single ply. If you are interested in finding out more about SUP then please contact SPRA for further information.

CITB grant support is available for registered companies on all SPRA courses. SPRA members do receive a discount, however SPRA training is open to all installers within the single ply industry.

Currently additional government funding has been made available for OSAT, funding was released for 40 OSAT places in JULY 2017, already more than half the places have been filled so if this would be of interest to you please get in touch with SPRA now.
