Assistant Controller – Cookeville, TN (Friday’s Work at Home)

Location: Cookeville, Tennessee (Hybrid – 1 day remote per week)

Employment Type: Full-Time

Compensation: $110,000 – $120,000 + benefits

We are seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Assistant Controller to join our growing finance team in Cookeville, TN . This is a key role that combines accounting fundamentals with in-depth operational and cost analysis, partnering closely with operations, supply chain, and senior leadership to ensure accurate reporting and strong business performance.

This opportunity is ideal for an experienced Plant Accountant or Senior Accountant who is ready to take the next step into a Controller or Assistant Controller role .

What You’ll Do

• Support month-end and year-end close, journal entries, reconciliations, and audit schedules.
• Prepare and review financial statements to ensure accuracy and GAAP compliance.
• Lead inventory accounting processes, ensuring accurate valuation, reconciliations, and reporting.
• Manage cost accounting and standard costing , providing insights into production costs and margin performance.
• Conduct variance analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
• Partner with operations and supply chain teams to analyze BOMs, COGS, and other key drivers of financial performance.
• Build and refine financial models, KPIs, and dashboards to support budgeting, forecasting, and decision-making.
• Support the continuous improvement of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA/CMA a plus).
• 5+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, ideally in a manufacturing or distribution environment .
• Strong technical accounting experience in GAAP and financial reporting.
• Proven expertise in Excel (pivot tables, advanced formulas, data analysis) and familiarity with ERP systems (Oracle, NetSuite, SAP, or similar).
• Hands-on experience in inventory accounting, cost accounting, and variance analysis .
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
