Writer/Editor

Gallopade is a leading publisher of elementary and middle school curriculum resources aligned
to state learning standards and an award-winning source of children’s literature and unique
books for all ages. For more than 45 years, Gallopade has partnered with schools, teachers,
libraries, museums, gift shops, and bookstores to provide titles about Social Studies,
Geography, Science, and more! Gallopade Curriculum is currently available in seven U.S.
states and continues to expand.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The top responsibility of the Writer/Editor is to create and maintain new and existing print and
digital products, features, enhancements, updates, and corrections. The writer/editor will edit
and write social studies materials for elementary grades. They will construct student books
(digital and print textbooks) based on the state standards and build supplementary materials
that help reinforce and enhance students’ learning. This includes tests, quizzes, activities,
projects, worksheets, additional reading, and more.
Foundational characteristics essential to meeting customer expectations include content
accuracy, ease of use (for teachers and students), effectiveness (at helping achieve learning
goals), and detailed alignment to state learning standards (for curriculum products). Other
important characteristics in Product Development include enthusiasm, inclusivity, honesty, and
passion for your work.
RESPONSIBILITIES IN THIS ROLE
● Edit and write print and digital Student Books and supplementary materials
● Ensure all products align completely to state and grade standards
● Collaborate with managers, editors, curriculum specialists, trainers, and designers to
create and deliver projects and to continuously improve them
● Seek ways to improve the teacher and student experience through innovation and
creativity, best practices in communication, and state-of-the art media
● Manage multiple concurrent projects within a fast-paced environment
EXPERIENCE
● Bachelors degree in journalism or English
● 5+ years of experience as a writer/editor
● Expert at writing, proofreading, and editing; great storyteller
● Demonstrated ability to conduct and analyze research and then tailor information for
different audiences or grade levels
● Conceptual creativity and problem-solving skills; strong attention to detail; excellent
organization skills
● Experience with content management systems
● Ability to give and receive constructive feedback
● Strong interpersonal and time management skills
● Familiarity with both the Chicago Manual of Style and AP Style
● Experience in any of the following areas is a plus: publishing, education, instructional
design, K-12 curriculum resources, eLearning
