Job Description

Macdonald & Company has been exclusively retained by a nationally recognized real estate investment and development organization to identify and appoint a Senior Asset Manager to join its growing multifamily team.

Position Summary

The Senior Asset Manager, Multifamily will oversee a portfolio of multifamily properties, ensuring each asset performs at or above target across operational, financial, and strategic measures. This individual will be responsible for driving performance, leading third-party property managers, and executing strategies that enhance long-term portfolio value. The role requires a balance of analytical acumen, strategic insight, and leadership capability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive business plans for each property, focusing on profitability, resident experience, and sustained value creation.
  • Identify and execute strategic initiatives, including operational efficiencies, capital investments, and repositioning opportunities.
  • Lead and coordinate third-party property management teams to ensure consistent performance and adherence to company standards.
  • Establish and maintain operating best practices that improve property operations, team efficiency, and resident satisfaction.
  • Analyze financial and operational reports to monitor performance, identify trends, and provide recommendations to leadership.
  • Conduct market research to assess competitive positioning, identify opportunities, and anticipate market shifts.
  • Collaborate with internal teams in development, marketing, finance, and capital markets to align asset strategies with broader investment goals.
  • Oversee annual budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis for assigned assets.
  • Manage capital projects, ensuring timely execution, cost control, and delivery against return expectations.
  • Participate in acquisition due diligence, underwriting, and capital planning to support portfolio growth.
  • Ensure compliance with reporting requirements, governance standards, and company policies.
  • Act as a strategic partner to senior leadership, continuously identifying opportunities to enhance performance and mitigate risk.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Real Estate, Finance, Business, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 5–10 years of progressive experience in multifamily or commercial real estate asset management, acquisitions, or investment management.
  • Proven track record of managing and optimizing multifamily portfolios or large-scale real estate assets.
  • Strong analytical, financial modeling, and valuation skills.
  • Experience interpreting property-level financials, ROI analysis, and forecasting.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with asset management or financial analysis software.
