The plea comes from the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity which needs your help with their urgent crisis appeal. Just one week in, and they’ve raised a huge £56,000 – but they’ve still got a very long way to go to reach their £1 million target.
Calls to their 24/7 helpline continue to rise. They want to highlight some of the calls that their case workers have had this week:
“One desperate caller to our helpline told us that he was number 22,000 in an online queue to get access to Universal Credit.” Thankfully, this is where we can step in to provide a lifeline to those workers that are falling through the safety net.
Tragically however, they don’t reach everyone in time. “We’ve just heard from the partner of a worker who was already having problems with debt before the pandemic. Being laid off was just too much to cope with and he took his own life in the family home. His partner found him and she is now attempting to deal with the horror of what has happened. He leaves two young children.”
These are just two of the many calls they have received, and continue to receive. They highlight how vital our Construction Workers Family Crisis Appeal is.
Please, please donate to the appeal if you can – even the smallest donation can really help. If you can’t support us financially then please help us spread the word about our 24/7 Construction Industry Helpline and app.
