CPA – Weakest Construction Performance since August 2016
The Markit/CIPS PMI index for construction was 51.9 in July, down from 54.8 in June. Although the reading was above 50, the threshold for expansion, July’s data marked the weakest construction performance since August 2016. The slowdown was primarily attributed to lower volumes of commercial construction and weaker house building activity. Similar to June, the survey also reported weak growth in new orders, as the uncertain political and economic backdrop prompted delayed decision making amongst clients, hindering demand.
