Buildings have a big role to play in the required transition to a net zero carbon economy by 2050. This month we launched our UKGBC Advancing Net Zero Programme that will see construction and property businesses work together to lead this transition. You can also read our response to the news that Energy and Clean Growth Minister Claire Perry has written to the Committee on Climate Change (CCC) asking for advice on setting a date for achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions.
Incremental change is no longer enough and therefore our new Innovation Portal is designed to provide an open forum to crowdsource solutions to some of the industry’s biggest challenges. Please do check out the Portal, add your ideas and in December vote for the top ones. We know some of the best ideas haven’t been developed yet so we’re running our first Sustainable Innovation Sprint on Friday 30 November at the Urban Innovation Centre.
We are currently running a series of activities to explore what the risks are to the UK built environment from the changing climate and what can be done to make buildings and infrastructure more resilient. On November 6th we have a webinar where we will launch our new actor and resource map for climate resilience in the built environment, and on December 6th we are co-hosting an event with the Greater Manchester Combined Authority.
