Build UK – Industry Response Group Update – Independent Review Work Streams
Following Dame Judith Hackitt’s Interim Report, the Independent Review of Building Regulations is establishing working groups to develop advice for delivering a more effective building regulations and fire safety systems.
Design, Construction and Refurbishment What do industry and regulators need to do differently to fully embed building safety during the design and construction phase?
Occupation and Maintenance What do building owners, landlords and regulators need to do differently to fully embed building safety during the occupation phase?
Quality Assurance and Products How can we improve the product testing and marketing regime?
Competency How should the competency requirements for key individuals involved in building and managing complex/high-risk buildings change from now? And how should competence gaps be filled?
Resident’s Voice What is the best way for residents to be given a clear, quick and effective statutory route for raising concerns on fire safety through building owners and where necessary then to an external body with enforcement powers?
Regulations and Guidance How do we deliver regulation and guidance that is coherent, comprehensive and appropriate for the delivery of high rise, high risk buildings. How do we move the ownership of this guidance to industry?
Build UK has been asked to be involved in the working groups on: design, construction and refurbishment, competence, and regulations and guidance. Working Groups will be transparent and collaborative so we will have the opportunity to contribute across each work stream.
It is expected that Working Groups will produce draft recommendations by early to mid-March for the Independent Review team to consider and inform the final report in the spring.
