I am extremely pleased to announce that Sarah Beale, Interim CEO of the CITB will be opening the SPRA conference on the 21st June this year. Not only is it Consensus Year for CITB, they are taking a radical approach to re-shaping the organisation so that it can effectively and efficiently respond to the increasing skills demand that is facing not only our sector, but the industry as a whole.
Manufacturers are responsible for most of the training in the single ply sector, and therefore they have an important role to play in understanding and promoting valuable CITB support to their approved contractors to maximise upskilling opportunities.
A positive result for contractors is that the CITB are confident that they can reduce levy payments whilst maintaining a quality service as part of their re-structure. This reduction in fees will also reduce the financial impact for bigger contractors who are also going to be affected by the Governments’ new Apprenticeship Levy from May 2017. CITB is an essential resource for specialist industries like Single Ply roofing. They are a lifeline to contractors needing specialist training by working with trade bodies and others to develop qualifications and training courses that are not found in mainstream education, as well as providing funding for this training. All companies who have a relationship with contractors, and who are involved with training, should be extremely interested in these developments, and should get involved with the consultation to re-shape training support, knowledge and understanding. There’s been a lot of talk over the years, but now there is real action on re-shaping this organisation to meet the needs of its industry.
