When is a net zero carbon building not a net zero carbon building? When it’s an ‘Industrial Strategy Grand Challenge Mission for Clean Growth’, of course! On 21 May, the Prime Minister announced a Clean Growth mission to halve energy use from new buildings by 2030. This is supposed to account for all energy used in a building and include low carbon heating. If you add a bit of renewable electricity into the mix, that mission starts to look suspiciously similar to a net zero carbon building.
